Brick pavers, complete with engraving, are still available for purchase at Horizon Health’s “Garden of Hope.” Orders received now through Monday, June 4, will be engraved in the garden by the end of June. (Print an order form)

Two sizes of brick pavers are available. A 6”x9” brick is $75, and a 9”x9” brick is $150. The name of someone you choose can be displayed on the brick as “In Honor Of” or “In Memory Of.” Engraving is done twice a year–in the spring and fall. To date, about half of the pavers that surround the garden’s water feature have been sold.

“We appreciate all the generous donations to this popular and well-received community project,” said Carolyn Sutton, co-facilitator of the Horizon Health Cancer Friendship Group. “We’re trying to add more to the garden every year to make it even more visually appealing.”

In addition to the sale of brick pavers, sponsorship of a planter is available for $1,000, Carolyn said. Individuals can also make monetary donations to support the garden. All donations, including paver purchases, are tax deductible as allowed by law.

“The garden is an ongoing project,” Carolyn explained. “All donations help pay for general maintenance, new flowers and other plantings.”

The Garden of Hope opened last summer in the courtyard at Paris Community Hospital. The project was initiated by the Cancer Friendship Group, which wanted to create a soothing space where cancer survivors, caregivers, and families could reflect, meditate, and get an increased sense of hope, renewal, and restoration. The garden features beautiful landscaping, benches, a brick walkway, and water feature.

“Anyone can purchase a brick paver or make a donation to the garden,” Carolyn said. “All visitors are welcome. They don’t need to be a cancer survivor or even know someone who has cancer to enjoy this beautiful space.”
