Horizon Health Announces Athletic Trainers for New Season

Two graduate students from Eastern Illinois University are helping ensure local athletes stay in the game this season.

Horizon Health has provided funding for athletic trainers at area schools for the past several years. Through a partnership agreement with EIU, graduate students – who are certified athletic trainers – help young players prevent and recover from injuries. Athletic trainers assess, manage, treat, rehabilitate, and recondition athletic injuries. They also provide emergency care and implement concussion protocols to ensure player safety.

The athletic trainers work with athletes participating in football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, cheerleading, and other sports. The new athletic trainers for the 2021-2022 season are:

Paris Sports

Madissen Davis is the athletic trainer for Paris high school, working alongside Alli Antkiewicz, full-time athletic trainer at Horizon Health. Madissen has a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Louisiana State University. Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Madissen is pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration at EIU. Her goal is to become a high school or collegiate athletic trainer, with a long-term ambition of working in professional sports.

“After tearing a hamstring in high school, I became interested in body anatomy,” Madissen said. “I shadowed an athletic trainer and loved it.”

Tri-County Sports

Huntur Orwick, of Villa Grove, Illinois, is the athletic trainer for Tri-County sports. He has a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from EIU and is pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration. His goal is to become a full-time, high school athletic trainer with a degree in elementary education.

“I always loved sports. My uncle was an EMT and I liked what he did. Athletic training is a perfect mix of sports and the medical profession,” he said.

Horizon Health also provides an athletic trainer for Chrisman, Martinsville, and Paris Youth Football. The Horizon Health athletic training team includes full-time athletic trainers Alli Antkiewicz, Clinton Schlosser, and Lisa Smittkamp, rehab coordinator and program manager.
