Community Classes

Horizon Health offers classes for the general public, as well as healthcare professionals.

(Horizon Health employees can register for courses through RELIAS or by contacting the Education Department at 217-466-4333.)


EMT-Basic Certification

The 18-week course will take place Mondays and Wednesdays, from 5 to 9 pm, beginning September 25, 2023. The course fee is $850, which includes a student polo shirt for clinical hours, a drug screen, and a background check. After completing the course, students will qualify for the National Registry EMT Exam.

Basic Life Support (BLS)- Renewal Course

This course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Cost: $25

Who should take this course?
Healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR, and other basic cardiovascular life support skills, in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)- Full Course

This course builds on the foundation of basic life support (BLS) skills, emphasizing the importance of preventing cardiac arrest, early and continuous high-quality CPR, and high-performing teams.

Cost: $45

Who should take this course?
Healthcare professionals who direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies, as well as emergency response personnel.

This course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies involving infants and children, and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units.

Cost: $45

Who should take this course?
Physicians, nurses, paramedics, or those currently working with emergency response, emergency medicine, and critical care units. You must also have been previously been certified in PALS (this is a renewal course).

Heartsaver CPR

This free non-healthcare provider course teaches basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This course does not include first aid, which can be arranged separately. An official CPR certification card from the American Heart Association is optional for $25. Classes are held at the Education Center.

Who should take this course?
Anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

First Responder Class

Participants will earn certification as a first responder. Internet access is required, as this is a hybrid course. CPR and BLS certifications are included in the course. Registration is open to anyone age 16 and older.
