Community Classes

Horizon Health offers classes for the general public, as well as healthcare professionals.

(Horizon Health employees can register for courses through RELIAS or by contacting the Education Department at 217-466-4333.)


EMT-Basic Certification

Horizon Health is offering a 22-week course for EMT-Basic certification.

Classes will take place Wednesdays, from 6 to 10 pm, beginning September 14, 2022 at Horizon Health.

The cost is $850, which includes a background check and drug screen, and must be paid when registering. Completing the course will earn you authorization to sit for the National Registry EMT exam.

Weight Loss Seminars

Attend a FREE seminar to learn how our bariatrics program can help you achieve your weight loss goals.

The seminars feature our Cleveland Clinic-trained bariatric surgeon, who will explain what you need to know to succeed before and after surgery.

First Responder Class

Participants will earn certification as a first responder. Internet access is required, as this is a hybrid course. CPR and BLS certifications are included in the course. Registration is open to anyone age 16 and older.

Heartsaver CPR/AED (first aid optional)

This course teaches basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). An official CPR/AED certification card from the American Heart Association is optional for $25.

Who should take this course?
Anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Cost: $25

Who should take this course?
Healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR, and other basic cardiovascular life support skills, in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)- Full Course

This course builds on the foundation of basic life support (BLS) skills, emphasizing the importance of preventing cardiac arrest, early and continuous high-quality CPR, and high-performing teams.

Cost: $45

Who should take this course?
Healthcare professionals who direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies, as well as emergency response personnel.

Healthcare professionals who direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies, as well as emergency response personnel who have previously been certified in ACLS (this is a renewal course).

Safe Sitter Class

Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized class that provides babysitters with basic safe child care techniques so they are prepared to act in a crisis. The class provides tips on safety and security precautions, facts about child development and age-appropriate activities, and explains the business aspects of babysitting.

Cost: $35

Who should take this course?
Boys and girls ages 11-13.
