Chicago Cardiologist Joins Horizon Health

Dr. Tyson brings more than 25 years of experience

A Chicago cardiologist has joined Horizon Health to lead and expand its cardiology services.

As a full-time employee of Horizon Health, Dr. C. Tyson joins nurse practitioner Melissa Thomas in Horizon Health’s growing cardiology department.

Dr. Tyson has more than 25 years of experience as a cardiologist. He has worked at several Chicago hospitals, mainly on the city’s south side.

“I wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle of Chicago,” Dr. Tyson said. “I really like this area. It’s a small community where everyone knows each other.”

Dr. Tyson diagnoses and treats all types of cardiovascular diseases, including congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. He offers cardiac testing, all types of stress testing, and heart rhythm monitoring. In his practice, he collaborates with Horizon Health’s cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation programs.

“Dr. Tyson is a great addition given his expertise in treating all types of cardiovascular conditions,” said Ollie Smith, Horizon Health president & CEO. “Cardiology is important to our communities, and we are committed to growing and sustaining those services.”

Dr. Tyson said a family history of heart disease led him to become a cardiologist.

“I knew cardiology was for me,” he explained. “Patients come first. If I need to spend additional time with them at an appointment, then I am happy to do that.”

Dr. Tyson was born and raised in Opp, Alabama, a town similar in size to Paris, Illinois. He earned his medical degree at Meharry School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed a fellowship in invasive/noninvasive cardiology at Columbus Hospital in Chicago.

In his spare time, Dr. Tyson enjoys playing basketball, riding motorcycles and ATVs.

Dr. Tyson sees patients in the Paris Clinic. A medical referral is not required. For appointments, call 217-466-4096.
