Horizon Health EMS Crew Earns Challenge Coin Honors

Four Horizon Health first responders have been recognized for their exceptional patient care and lifesaving efforts, receiving Challenge Coin commendations from the Carle Regional EMS System (CREMS).

The honors recognize the team's dedication, collaboration, and ability to deliver outstanding care during critical, life-threatening emergencies, including a cardiac arrest response that resulted in a successful resuscitation and positive patient outcome.

At a recent ceremony, Challenge Coins were presented to Paramedic Shift Leads Trevan Land and Adam Webb, Paramedic Tom Cox, and EMT McKynze Carico. The crew was recognized for its response to three separate, highly challenging emergency calls that required close coordination with the Paris Police and Fire Departments.

Also receiving Challenge Coins were Paris Firefighters Charles Thorpe and Michael Pinnell, as well as Paris Police Officer Brian Graber, Sergeant Chris Ray, Officer Blake Quinn, and Officer Kyle Johnson.

The Horizon Health team was selected from among approximately 1,400 emergency medical personnel in the CREMS network, one of 11 EMS regions in Illinois. The Challenge Coin is considered the EMS equivalent of the DAISY Award, which honors extraordinary nurses nationwide.

Horizon Health Emergency Medical Services continues to receive national recognition for excellence in heart attack and stroke care. In both 2025 and 2026, the service received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Achievement Award.
