With a population of 8,291 (US Census: 2020), Paris is a quiet and charming community located on the eastern side of Illinois. Paris features lakes, parks, golf courses, hunting, fishing, and historical sites, including a museum, arts center, and library. Paris is conveniently close to Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Springfield, and Champaign, for when you need a big-city getaway.
While Horizon Health is a wonderful opportunity for you as a physician, the Paris community is an excellent environment for your family as well. There are numerous employment options available in manufacturing, education, finance, agriculture, and more. Paris also features churches, civic organizations, common interest clubs, and children’s activity programs. There are two public school districts in Paris with a new high school, a Lutheran daycare and preschool program, and a Christian school grades preschool through fifth.
Horizon Health’s primary medical campus includes Paris Community Hospital, Paris Clinic, and the Acklin-Shackelford Clinic (visiting specialty clinic), all under one roof. This provides convenience for physicians and patients in terms of clinic visits, ancillary testing, surgery preregistration, and more.
There are many higher education opportunities near Paris if you, your spouse, or children are seeking college, university, or trade school education. These opportunities include:
Horizon Health has experienced tremendous growth over the past several years. We have invested in new physical space at our main campus in Paris, and have added new off-site locations and services.
An addition to the Paris Clinic was completed in 2022, which provides additional space for family practice providers and behavioral health services. The current clinic will continue to house practices of the specialty providers.
A new rehabilitation services building was constructed in 2019. The Life Center building opened in 2020 and houses Senior Care, our outpatient geriatric psychology program, and the Human Resources Center of Edgar & Clark Counties.
We recently added specialty clinics in neighboring communities, including orthopedics and pain clinics in Terre Haute, Indiana. A new dialysis center opened on the hospital campus in 2023.
