Sycamore Pain & Wellness Celebrates One-Year Anniversary

Expansion continues with family medicine

Since becoming a service of Horizon Health a year ago, Sycamore Pain & Wellness has grown by leaps and bounds. It continues to add more services and specialist providers, building upon its core services of pain management, behavioral health, weight management, and bone health and wellness.

“Sycamore Pain & Wellness has been a great addition to the Horizon Health family,” said Ollie Smith, Horizon Health president & CEO. “Their accomplishments over the past year demonstrate their continued commitment to meeting the needs of their patients in the Wabash Valley.”

Through its partnership with Horizon Health that began in December 2022, Sycamore Pain & Wellness opened in the former Harrison College building on Terre Haute’s eastside at 1378 S. State Road 46. The original pain clinic was founded by Dr. Thomas Pendergast, a well-known Terre Haute native who began his pain management practice in 2007.

“This partnership with Horizon Health has allowed us to expand our services and provide patients with the services they need and want,” Dr. Pendergast said. “Our patients have always been our top priority. We provide a customized, holistic approach that gives them the best opportunity for successful outcomes.”

Dr. Pendergast continues to recruit a talented team of specialized providers. Over the past year, the Sycamore staff has grown from seven to 13 providers. Half of them are behavioral health providers.

“Mental health significantly impacts the effectiveness of an individual’s treatment plan,” Dr. Pendergast explained. “That’s why we have taken an integrated approach to offering pain management, behavioral health, and wellness services.”

Sycamore Pain & Wellness continues to add more advanced procedures, including those for degenerative disc disease and lumbar spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal). Several non-surgical treatments are available for low-back and leg pain, many of which are not commonly offered at other pain clinics. Additionally, surgical procedures are available for long-term pain relief, including pain pumps and nerve stimulators. The clinic also offers Botox treatments for migraines.
