Horizon Health Helps Students Explore Careers

Horizon Health is offering a new program for high school students who are interested in healthcare careers.
Operation: H.E.A.L. (Healthcare Education And Leadership) is a three-day, interactive program available to incoming high school freshmen through graduating seniors. Students will learn about career opportunities from healthcare professionals from various fields and backgrounds while participating in hands-on activities.
The program will take place June 9-11, from 8 am to 3 pm, at the Horizon Health Education Center, 15197 US Highway 150, Paris, IL.
“This unique opportunity will provide valuable insight into the wide variety of healthcare careers that are available,” said Christina Hodgson, Horizon Health public relations/marketing manager. “It will offer something for everyone – whether a student has already chosen a specific career field or is undecided and wants to learn more.”
The following Horizon Health departments will provide presentations and demonstrations:
- Nursing
- Medical/Surgical (inpatient unit)
- Respiratory
- Radiology
- Laboratory
- Rehabilitation Services
- Emergency Department
- Emergency Medical Services/Ambulance
- Clinic Specialty Services
- Surgery
- Pharmacy
Hands-on activities will utilize medical training models and simulations, and include:
- Medication compounding
- Sutures
- Blood draw
- Lab cultures
- Wound care
- Medical casting for fractures
- Airway intubation
- Balance training
- Athletic Training
- Stop the Bleed activity
- Proper use of medical assistance devices
- Ambulance tour
Horizon Health will also perform blood typing to determine students’ blood type (A, B, AB or O/positive or negative). Student participation is optional.
