Horizon Health Brings the Region's Most Advanced Endoscopy Imaging Technology to Patients

When it comes to endoscopy, what your physician can see matters.

Horizon Health is the only hospital in central and southern Illinois using Fujifilm’s most advanced video imaging system, giving physicians a new level of visualization during endoscopy procedures and helping them make informed decisions about patient care.

“For an endoscopist, our eyes are one of our most important tools,” said Dr. Yaniv Cozacov, chief of surgery at Horizon Health. “Some of the abnormalities we look for can be remarkably subtle. The better we can see, the better we can identify an area that needs to be biopsied, removed or treated.”

Fujifilm’s next-generation ELUXEO EP-8000 Endoscopic Imaging System combines advanced LED lighting with 4K imaging technology to provide brighter, sharper, and more detailed images during procedures. Specialized imaging modes can accentuate subtle differences, which further enhances the appearance of polyps and other abnormal areas, helping physicians evaluate lesions and see blood vessels more clearly.

For patients, that means physicians have the best view possible when evaluating your health concerns.

“This system was just released in the US last year and is the latest and greatest technology in the industry,” said Phillip Clem, Fujifilm account executive. “The images are incredible – crisp, clear and bright.”

The technology is used during both upper endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures. These procedures use long, flexible tubes called endoscopes that feature a tiny light and camera at the tip.

An upper endoscopy examines the throat, stomach and upper small intestine through the mouth to help identify causes of symptoms, such as heartburn, pain or bleeding. A colonoscopy examines the rectum and large intestine to screen for colon cancer and evaluate bowel problems.

Open Access Colonoscopies

Colonoscopy is the gold standard for colon cancer screening. At Horizon Health, eligible patients can schedule a screening colonoscopy without a preliminary office visit through a new service called Open Access Colonoscopy.
