PCH/FMC to Host Free Diabetes Program Nov. 14

In celebration of world diabetes day, Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center will host its annual diabetes education program on Tuesday, November 14.

This free program titled “Take Charge Now: Manage Prediabetes,” will take place from noon to 1:30 pm at Step Station, 14793 E. 1200th Road (Old Moss Road), Paris. The program is for individuals with prediabetes. The featured speaker will be Dr. Edward Rico, PCH/FMC endocrinologist.

This program is hosted in coordination with Illinois Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-102).

Prediabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 84 million American adults—more than one in three—have prediabetes. Of those with prediabetes, 90% don’t know they have it. Prediabetes puts you at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

The November 14 event will include lunch and time for questions from attendees. Seating is limited. To register, call Leighsa Cornwell at 217-466-4228. Please register by Thursday, November 9.
