Horizon Health Announces EMT Scholarship Winners

Registration still open for certification class

The Horizon Health Foundation of East Central Illinois has announced the winners of its first-ever EMT-Basic scholarships.

Each recipient received a $850 scholarship to cover the cost of this fall’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic) certification course at Horizon Health. The scholarship winners are:

  • Isabelle Maurer, of Marshall, who hopes to use the certification to work for Horizon Health Emergency Medical Services.
  • Rowdey Mullenix, of Redmon, who plans to pursue a career in the medical field as a first responder.

Isabelle said she experienced the work of EMTs and paramedics first-hand as a job-shadowing student in the Horizon Health’s Health Occupations Class.

“During my time there, I saw the skill and care given by the staff,” she said. “They were so kind and made me appreciate this as a career choice.”

Rowdey, who currently serves on the Redmon Volunteer Fire Department, said being an EMT is the perfect fit for him.

“I have always wanted to help people and contribute to my community,” he said.

Class registration still open

Horizon Health continues to accept registration for its 22-week, EMT-Basic certification course. The class will take place on Wednesdays, from 6 to 10 pm, beginning September 14. The fee for the course is $850, which includes a background check and drug screen.

Register at MyHorizonHealth.org/Classes by Wednesday, August 10. The registration fee is required at the time of enrollment. For questions, email srobison@MyHorizonHealth.org.
