Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

From prescription pain relievers to illicit street drugs, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) can help people break free from the grips of drug addiction.

Horizon Health has a MAT program that offers renewed hope and a restart on life. It combines medications with behavioral therapies to combat substance use disorders, including opioid addiction.

Evidence shows that patients who receive Medication Assisted Treatment are more likely to stay sober, maintain a family life, and hold a job. It is a proven way to eliminate illegal drug use, decrease/eliminate usage of prescription pain relievers, have a safer pregnancy, decrease criminal activity, and start a new life.

What is MAT?

Medication Assisted Treatment is the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies for the treatment of substance use disorders. The treatment helps reestablish normal brain function, reduce substance cravings/withdrawal symptoms, and prevent relapse.

Horizon Health's MAT program provides individual addiction counseling, opioid tapering with non-narcotic options, Transitional Suboxone medication management, and long-acting injections (Sublocade and Brixadi).

Approximately 5.6 million people age 12 and older had an opioid use disorder in 2021, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health & the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services. Of those individuals, 1.2 million received some sort of treatment for their opioid misuse, with 73 percent receiving Medication Assisted Treatment.
